Framing progress

Yep, walls on the main floor were stood up in one day.

Haley and Faith giving dear life long friends Joan and Dan Crooks a tour of the house!
The solid pressure treated beam seen in the floor allows the porch to span 18' without posts below. We also used Camo brand screws so there aren't any nails showing in the deck boards.
More dear friends Mark & Stephanie Brunner came by and we all got to see this rainbow, we just forgot to take a picture of us together!

Framing commences, so I may get nutty with pictures!

Better late than never, but my concrete subcontractor sent this to me two weeks after requested!
He told me that he was going to add the Spanish Lace color to the concrete, but he didn't tell me he was going to also stamp it with a slate texture! Thank you Baumgarten Cement!!!
Day 1 of framing complete
Day 1
Day 2 and they removed the shed portion of the barn
Day 2 they also removed the shed portion from the wood shop!
Day 3 was inspected with my dad the following day. Faith, friends and I saw Willie Nelson the night before at Chastain, so I didn't make it out there the third day of framing!
My worker-girl helping me out! She's a good hep-mate!

Concrete complete and backfill grading too

My project last weekend. Rented this magnetic drill to be able to drill holes on the bottom of the beams. This will allow for attaching wood framing to the ceiling and then sheetrock later.

Beams in place

She humors me, and I'm grateful for it! This will be the Beaner/Hoop dawg/Houihan/Baby girl/Haley's room!

Faith waving hello on top of our poured garage slab!

The upper left portion of concrete looks different because it has a colored powder added to the concrete mixture throughly, and then they throw it on once finished to add just a touch more color. Monday they will come back and clean it off and then seal it! This was a "house warming" gift from my concrete contractor. It's going to look great and we are grateful!

Time lapse photo.

The old homesite with final coverup and dirt added and sloped away from the old retaining wall close to the top of the photo.

The bank on the right has some slope to it, but dirt was taken from here to help drainage around the barn and to use as backfill around the house. The circular drive is starting to take shape and the island will be dressed up with more trees and flowers over time.

Finished plans and foundation slab

This week we finished the foundation slab. Next week we will have the I-beams set, then metal pan and pour concrete on top of it for the garage.

Here is a picture of the front and right side elevation which you will drive up to and see.
This is the rear and left side.
Together forever!
Boring concrete, but you have to have it!

Nothing is ever prefect, but we try

With as long as I've been doing this, and this being my own home, you'd HOPE that it went off without a hitch. But Murphy's Law says something about that and when my plumber notified me a footer was in the wrong place I new exactly what happened.... When you are still designing your home WHILE you build, stuff like this is bound to happen. My concrete guy went off the original plan that had a jog in the foundation, instead of the plan that extended the jog, basically. But no big deal, cut out some concrete, put in the plumbing pipes, then come back and reform when they pour the slab which is today. May the 4th be with you! And if this is the biggest error to occur, then it's definitely no big deal, but I doubt we'll be that lucky so we'll roll with the punches. Right honey?!?

The area in bathroom #2 with the jog error and footer torn out.

The same area with the footer reformed!
How cool is this? I love the DJI Phantom 3 Pro!
It's hard to tell that we've cleaned up where the former house resided, but it has and there's still more to do.
I'm hoping I can have a time lapse of the project with this similar view to show off the transformation.
Another cool angle with the house and old home site. The out building seen here will be moved to the middle of the circle drive close to the house.
